Difference between Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro

Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 pro are two operating systems developed by the Microsoft company intended for different purposes and objectives, so their characteristics are also different.

In this sense, in this article we will present the definitions and characterization of each of these systems, in order to later establish the basic differences between them.

Windows 10 Home

Windows 10 Home is an operating system developed by the Microsoft company intended for home use. Windows 10 Home is the version that is aimed at common consumers, it includes almost all the new features that Windows 10 brings, such as the new Microsoft Edge browser, facial recognition through Microsoft Hello, the personal digital assistant Cortana and it also has Continuity, which is a tool that improves the way in which hybrid systems such as tablets work.

Key features include: Customizable Start Menu, Trusted Platform Module, Power Saving Mode, Snap Apps, Microsoft Edge Browser, Device Encryption, Test Loading of Windows Store Apps, and Easy Update from Home to Education Edition. This version of Microsoft Windows does not have advanced management tools, since they are intended for business versions such as Windows 10 Pro.

Windows 10 Pro

Windows 10 Pro is an operating system developed by the Microsoft company aimed at small and medium-sized professional companies that require access to specific administration and security tools.

Key features include: Customizable Start Menu, Trusted Platform Module, Power Saving Mode, Snap Apps, Microsoft Edge Browser, Device Encryption, Test Load Windows Store Apps, Fast Boot with Hiberboot and InstantGo, Windows Defender/Firewall.

More in detail, the Pro version also has functions such as BitLocker Drive Encryption and DirectAccess, which are very useful tools at the business level. It also presents, among other applications, the Hyper-V Client specific for companies in the Windows store, which are also highly recommended applications used for these purposes.

Considering the above, it can be said that the main difference between Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro lies in the utility for which the operating system was designed. In this sense we have to:

  • Windows 10 Home is designed for home use, so its applications are simpler, while Windows 10 Pro was designed for business use, so its applications are more complete for that purpose.
  • Windows 10 Pro has the same features as Windows 10 Home but adds certain administrative tools applicable to the use for which it was designed.
  • Windows 10 Pro allows the user the possibility to join a domain, a useful tool to connect to corporate, business or university networks, while Windows 10 Home does not allow this option.
  • Windows 10 Pro introduces Hyper-V Client-like remote desktop and easy upgrade features from Pro to Enterprise edition, ability to join Azure Active Directory with single sign-on to cloud-hosted applications, tools not present in Windows 10 Pro version Windows 10 Home.
