Differences between Office 2007 and 2010

As is already known, Office 2007 and Office 2010 are two versions of the suite of computer applications developed by the North American company Microsoft, whose purpose is to optimize the activities that are carried out on a regular basis in an office. This package contains different applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Publisher, among others, and each of these applications has specific utilities for office tasks.

In this sense, in this article we will present the differences between Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010 versions for the consideration of our readers.

Microsoft Office 2007

Microsoft Office 2007 is a version of the suite of computer applications developed by the North American company Microsoft Corp., it was launched in the US in January 2007 to succeed Office 2003. Thus, Office 2007 presented subtle but important differences with respect to to its predecessor, including a network review system for Office applications known as Microsoft Office Server 2007 and Groove, a collaboration and communication system for small businesses.

Among other of the most important advantages of office 2007 are that it is less heavy and therefore more compatible with not so advanced computers. Additionally, it is simpler, so it gives a “clean” feel to the interface. As for the basic applications, Microsoft Office 2007 introduces new styles and fonts in Word, as well as a context checker, better performance and auto-complete editor functions in Excel, a revamped graphics engine and new templates in Power Point and a classic interface in Outlook.

Finally, another of the most outstanding features of this version is the multiple undo option, the document inspector and the marking of changes in SmartArt.

Microsoft Office 2010

Similarly, Microsoft Office 2010 is a newer version of the suite of computer applications developed by the US company Microsoft Corp., released in the US in June 2010 to succeed Office 2007. Also, Office 2010 has improved remarkable regarding its functionalities, which immediately made it the favorite version at the time.

Among some of the most important features that this version presented, we can highlight that it presented updates to the user interface, it was compatible with Windows XP SP3 (32-bit), Windows Vista SP1 and Windows 7. We can also mention the incorporation of Office Web Apps, a free version that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote and works directly in web browsers.

Regarding the basic applications, Office 2010 presents font control, new form controls and improvements in the Word document recovery service. Also, it has no cell limitations and introduces new chart styles in Excel. In the same way, the embedding of videos and new animations and slide transitions in Power Point, a new ribbon interface and anti-error warnings in Outlook are mentioned. Finally, another of the most outstanding features of this version is the improved image editing and the equation editor in all applications.

That said, we can summarize some differences between Office 2007 and 2010, which we show below:

  • Microsoft Office 2007 introduced Microsoft Office Server 2007 and Groove systems as innovative tools while Microsoft Office 2010 introduced major user interface updates.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 is more compatible with less advanced computers while Microsoft Office 2010 is more compatible with new documents.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 is less heavy while Microsoft Office 2010 is heavier both in space and graphics memory and thus it is designed for new generation computers for optimal quality.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 does not support exporting documents to PDF while Office 2010 does offer this support.
