Difference between Intel Xeon and Core i7

Main difference

Xeon and i7 are Intel processors. The memory supported by the i7 processors will be limited, but on the xeon processor the memory can be upgraded as needed. i7 has overclocking feature, which allows it to run at higher clock speeds than it is rated for, while xeon does not have such feature. i7 has built-in graphics card but xeon doesn’t have built-in graphics card. Xeon has Error Checking and Correcting (ECC) RAM whereby data errors are detected and corrected before they occur, while I7 does not have ECC RAM.

What is Xeon?

Xeon is an Intel processor. Most xeon models have 15-30 MB of L3 cache that maintains processor speed for applications. Xeon has Error Checking and Correcting (ECC) RAM. Most data errors are detected and corrected by RAM before they occur. Thus providing stable performance. It is capable of withstanding heavy loads.

What is Core i7?

i7 is an Intel processor. The i7 processor has the overclocking feature, which allows it to run at higher clock speeds than it is rated for. It has a built-in graphics card that allows you to play videos without a discrete video card.

Key differences

  1. The memory supported by the i7 processors will be limited, but on the xeon processor the memory can be upgraded as needed.
  2. i7 has overclocking feature, which allows it to run at higher clock speeds than it is rated for, while xeon does not have such feature.
  3. i7 has built-in graphics card but xeon doesn’t have built-in graphics card.
  4. Xeon needs a discrete video card to play video, but i7 doesn’t.
  5. Xeon has Error Checking and Correcting (ECC) RAM whereby data errors are detected and corrected before they occur, while I7 does not have ECC RAM.
  6. Xeon has better heavy duty capability than i7.
  7. i7 has a maximum memory bandwidth of 25.6 GB while xeon has a memory bandwidth of 51.2 GB.
  8. Xeon has 4 memory channels whereas in the past i7 limited to only 2 memory channels.
