Difference between gametic meiosis, zygotic meiosis and sporadic meiosis

Main difference

Meiosis is of three types, depending on the stage in which it occurs. The main difference between these three types of meiosis is that, in gametic meiosis, the meiosis process occurs during the formation of gametes and results in the formation of haploid gametes. In zygotic meiosis, the meiosis process occurs in a zygote and again results in haploid individuals. In sporic meiosis, division occurs during sporogenesis and results in the formation of a haploid number of spores. So the three types of these meiotic divisions depend on where and when the meiosis process occurs.

What is gametic meiosis?

Gametic meiosis occurs in gametes, during their formation, and eventually results in the formation of a haploid number of gametes. These gametes then fuse in the fertilization process and give rise to the zygote. He has a diplomatic lifestyle. This zygote then undergoes mitosis and becomes an individual. In sexually reproducing organisms, this type of meiosis takes place during the formation of gametes and later in the transfer of those gametes to the formation of a zygote.

What is zygotic meiosis?

Here the meiotic division occurs in a zygote. In this process the formation of a haploid individual takes place. The zygote is divided, resulting in haploid organisms, which have a haplontic life cycle as opposed to the diplontic life cycle in gametic meiosis. Zygotic meiosis occurs in lower plants. It occurs when the zygote is about to germinate and, therefore, the plant or filament is haploid in nature. The resulting zygote after the conjugation process is diploid. It undergoes a period of rest and finally germinates. At the time of germination, meiosis occurs to form four spores.

What is spore meiosis?

This type of division occurs during the sporogenesis process and results in the formation of haploid spores. The spore divides to form a gametophyte that eventually forms gametes. A diploid sporophyte forms as a result of the fusion of these gametes. It has a diplohaplontic life cycle and is common in plants. Spoic meiosis also occurs in the life cycle of ferns and mosses.
