They are the object of study of geometry, a branch of mathematics specialized in the analysis of the properties and measurements of figures in space or on the plane. A geometric figure is a group of points.
To classify geometric figures we have to relate to primordial concepts such as point, line, plane and space. The word comes from the Latin figūra and is used in different contexts with different meanings.
A figure is the external appearance of a thing, it is known as a figure that work that reflects the differences of animals, shapes and people.
For geometry a form is the physical object located in an area. It is the description of the part of the space obstructed by a fixed object by its external limit without taking into account its location and orientation, size, color, content and composition.
Simple shapes are known through basic geometry objects such as points, curves, straight lines, planes, and figures. Much of the shapes found in reality are complicated, some are arbitrary and are analyzed by differential geometry.
Differences between figure and form
- A figure is an area bounded by a line.
- A shape is a figure that is given volume and thickness. It is made known in different ways or through various figures, they present depth and volume.
- The form occupies the space but it can also be seen as a white space, it means that the space that encompasses the occupied space. When a shape occupies a space it is known as positive and if it surrounds an area it is negative.
