Difference between Limit and Border

Speaking of territoriality, geographical spaces, common interests, lead us to analyze and clearly identify the difference between limits and borders of each nation.

What is Border?

The definition of border in its context historically refers to a strip of border territory of a country located between the international limits previously established between each nation . The border determines where one country begins and another ends and vice versa; it also determines the sovereignty of each country.

The borders can be delimited by barricades, walls, fences, barbed wire, checkpoints, surveillance established by military personnel or civilian personnel. Among which stand out specialists in international law, human rights, specialists in migration processes, among others.

Police personnel or officials are in charge of monitoring the regularization of transit or passage between one country and another , and thus prevent the illegal passage of people, contraband or illicit products such as drugs or weapons.

In this sense, we can limit that due to the existing irregular movements at the border level between countries, these regularizations are binding, essential and of mandatory compliance and execution. Example of borders can be of type: land, air, river, lake, sea, etc.

It is the responsibility of the rulers of each nation to establish the criteria to regulate, transit and legislate within the limits of their borders. It is necessary to limit that some countries have natural borders , which are formed through geographic elements.

Example of natural borders

The mountains, the rivers, a forest or a mountain range, a coast, among others, which in the same way are clearly delimited by each nation.

What is Limit?

Referring to a visible or imaginary line that indicates the end of something or the separation between two things . The concept of limit tells us how far something goes; a country or a state. It is the physical or symbolic separation between two nations.

The divisions between the states of a country are rather an imaginary line to delimit the land to which one or the other belongs, commonly due to political-administrative factors of that territory or region.

Example

Spain is a nation that borders Portugal and its finite territories are clearly established through its geographical limits.

It should be noted that in the absence of borders, the limit must be demarcated , either through geographical coordinates ‘in an imaginary way’ or with milestones ‘post with which the limits of the land or the direction, distance etc, of the paths are marked. which indicate the alignment or level of these’.

Difference between Limit and Border

-Then we can say that the differences are clear, since the limit is an imaginary framed line or not. States regularly assume the boundary between one and the other. In all cases, although they are imaginary, they have detectable location data through satellite equipment.

-While the border is the spatial notion that corresponds to an area that extends to each of this line. In general, they are guarded in some way or another by officials or police agencies through checkpoints, walls, etc.

-In a broader context, it can be said that the border designates in turn the limit and the area to be delimited.
