What is conventional?

The easiest definition of conventional is to accept general and acceptable principles, norms or agreements between people. It can be shaped by past practices and experiences or by the future consensus of the people. The main advantage of the conventional is that it is based on a certain logic. It is a permanent activity, which changes according to the style and policies of the people. For example, in an Asian country, Sunday is a holiday, so it becomes conventional. The member countries of the UN, the IMF, the WTO or international organizations are obliged to follow the rules and regulations of these organizations because by becoming members they agreed to do so. Whenever there is a change in policy, all member countries are restricted to follow the same and repudiate the old policies. It is a better example of conventional.

What is traditional?

Traditional refers to those principles and policies that were agreed upon in the past and passed down to the next generation over time. Traditions are hard to change. For example, in Asian countries the bride wears a red dress at her wedding, while in Western countries the bride wears a white dress. Both are traditions of their respective region. The logic behind these concepts is that their ancestors wore that dress for marriages in their time. The tradition can be long and short term. For the most part, seasonal fashion is treated as a short-term tradition, while our customs, traditions, religion, and personal lifestyle are long-term traditions. Tradition can be common and different between different people. It mostly exists in different forms.

  7. Political, economic, defense and public relations policies are examples of the conventional, while personal life, customs and traditions are examples of the traditional.
