What is an Apparatus?
An apparatus is defined as the assembly of a group of parts in a mechanism that performs a specific function. The device can be made up of parts made of different materials, so it can include several systems within a single device.
This term is usually used in mechanics, electricity, physiology, and even in the social, economic and political fields, and it is based on the organization of various systems that are linked to carry out an activity. Therefore, a device can be a machine for domestic use, such as a blender, but a government organization is also called a device, where each element involved fulfills a function for a common purpose.
What is a System?
The word system comes from Latin and means “union of things in an organized way”. In general terms, the word system is used if we want to refer to a set of elements that are related to each other, which generally have similar characteristics, such as their composition or origin; and that they work together for the fulfillment of a purpose.
In anatomy, a system is very well exemplified, and it is that they are a set of homogeneous organs with a structure and related tissues that work to cover a physiological need. For example, the skeletal system is formed by the bones that, with their bone structure, constitute one of the systems of the human body.
Difference between Apparatus and System
- The system is made up of parts that are similar to each other in order to perform its function, while the apparatus does not require that the parts that compose it be similar.
- The device can be for two or more systems to achieve the objective for which it was designed, so its structure is usually more complex than that of a system, which only has the structure that allows it to fulfill its mission.
- The system follows a process to obtain a result, without depending on other systems; but the device requires the linking of various elements with specific tasks to achieve an end.
- Each system is elaborated thinking about how to reach or obtain a specific purpose. On the other hand, the device is developed by uniting the different functions of various systems into a single device that will also fulfill a task.
