What is the breath?
Respiration is a type of biophysical reaction that our body performs to inhale fresh air from the environment into the lungs to exhale carbon dioxide from the lungs to the environment. While the process of breathing our chest or rib cage continually contracts and expands. During breathing, all of our chest muscles are involved because the size of our diaphragm changes due to muscle activity between the ribs. The diaphragm contains the special muscle that lies between the thoracic activity and the abdominal cavity.
Basically, the respiration process has two main stages, that is, the process of ventilation and gas exchange. With the help of the diaphragm, our body can draw air in and out of the body. When rich oxygen enters the body, the diaphragm moves slightly downward. Then the inhalation of oxygen is delivered with the help of the bloodstream to the cells throughout the body. When oxygen reaches the cells, the respiration process begins within the cells. This is how the breathing process is also known as the ventilation process.
During the ventilation process, the lungs exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide. When the percentage of oxygen is approximately 20%, it is transported to all the cells of the body to activate respiration. Respiration is one of the important processes of all living organisms. Mammals breathe through their lungs. Fish breathe through gills. Breathing through the lungs is also known as pulmonary ventilation, which is regulated by the activity of the diaphragm.
The process of using oxygen and glucose to produce energy, ATP molecules, water, and carbon dioxide is called the respiration process. Glucose and oxygen combine and become a molecule of water and carbon dioxide by releasing energy in the form of ATP. The breathing process is classified into involuntary chemical reactions. Types of respiration
- Anaerobic respiration: this type of respiration occurs mainly in microorganisms, for example, yeasts, bacteria. Both are useful for the fermentation process in winemaking and other brewers. Whenever we work very hard and exercise due to oxygen deficiency, our system switches to anaerobic respiration. However, energy production is less during anaerobic respiration than during aerobic respiration.
- Aerobic respiration: Aerobic respiration takes place mainly in the cellular organelle, that is, the mitochondria. For aerobic respiration, oxygen is required to trigger the breathing process.
- The main purpose of respiration is to gain more and more oxygen, while the primary purpose of respiration is to produce more and more energy.
- The catalyst does not play any role in the respiration process; on the other hand, catalysts play an important role in the respiratory process.
- Breathing occurs by inspiration and expiration; conversely, respiration occurs in two stages, namely the Kreb cycle and glycolysis.
